Question
My rabbit just had babies and one got stuck and we think there is still another one  inside of her.  how do you get the rabbit out of the mother? and will it harm her if the rabbit stays in her?

Answer
Hi Amber

If she has a kit stuck she needs to go to an animal hospital or vet right away.  If she is unable to get it out on her own they will need to give her pitocin which is the natural hormone created by mammals to help induce labor.  If there is a kit stuck inside of her she can get a serious infection and could die.

It is really not safe to give pitocin on your own.  The dosage has to be calculated very carefully.  It is also not available without a prescription from a vet.

Sometimes they will deliver the baby on there own but I wouldn't take the chance.  It is not worth losing your rabbit over it.

That is the only advice I can give you.  If you need help finding a vet or 24 hour animal hospital you can go to

Rabbit safe vets are listed by state.  Not all are listed so you may know of one that is not listed, that does not mean they aren't aware of how to treat rabbits.

I hope your doe is ok
