Question
I have a 2yr old male & a 7yr old female that I have been trying to bond for the past year. Every time we put them together they fight. We have done brief periods closely supervised, in an unfamiliar place to both, they will smell and groom each other but when I try to give them a little more freedom fur starts flying everywhere. The 7 yr old received 7 stitches in her lower lip after one incident. When they are separated by a cage, they will groom each other constantly thru the cage. Should I keep trying or am I waisting my time. Thanks for your help

Answer
Dear Steve,

I'm all for bonding bunnies.  But it sounds as if these two may be a lost cause.  Still, there are a few things to consider:

1.  If they're not spayed/neutered, this is a must.  If only one is spayed/neutered, they will FIGHT WILDLY because only one will be interested in sex.  If this is the case, this could well be the problem.

2.  Once both rabbits are spayed/neutered, try the tips in the articles here:

IF you try all those with no success, then it may be time to throw in the towel and contact your local rabbit rescuer:

and set up "blind dates" for both bunnies so that each can pick a compatible companion (with careful bonding).

Hope this helps.
