GI Stasis & Raised Scar(?) on Skin

Question
I have an 11 1/2 year old Netherland Dwarf which is recently recovering from GI Stasis. She is appearing about 90% normal in attitude, still seems not 100% with her balance. Her cecal was initially runny the first week after she was released from vet care 2 weeks ago but all down under as well as her appetite appears to be pretty much back to normal. All of a sudden 2 nights ago she began licking and biking an area on her side. Upon inspection the bite appears to be like a scab, crusty top and as I litely pinch the area it appears to all be on the top of the surface of the skin. She is in indoor rabbit and has never had any bug bites. I don't know if this is a bug bite that will work itself out or if I should be more concerned. I appear to be paying more attention to it then she is but since she has never had any health problems before this recent GI Stasis I am of course super concerned about anything.

Answer
Dear Donald,

Without seeing the lesion, it's hard for me to know what it is.  But if it is scabby, moves freely with the skin, and does not have any sign of swelling or redness underneath, then it could just be a little scratch healing up and being itchy because the scab is falling off.  No way to know where she got the scratch, but if she was in the hospital for a while, it might have happened there.

If you are concerned, then it would be wise to take your pal to the vet for a check.  If you're not sure about your present vets' expertise with rabbits, you can find one here for a second opinion:

Congratulations on having such a happy elderbun!  Note that in many cases, chronic ileus is caused by the discomfort of molar spurs--especially in older rabbits.  You can read more here:

I hoipe this helps.  Please write back if you have any other questions.
