My Pet Arnie the French Lop Bunny

Question
Hello Randy
I am not sure whether you can answer my question but I will give it a go.

I bought Arnie ( A french lop White with pink eyes)when he was eight weeks old from a rabbit breader. He lives in his own open hutch in our shed with a huge window so he can see out into the world and I let him out into our garden in the morning and in the evening, He is allowed into the house whether he wants a cuddle and he used to come in all the time when he was younger, now he is about 2 and although I let him out the at the same time every day he doesn't seem to want to come in the house any more.
Do you think that because he is older he doesn't want any lovin anymore - I try to cuddle him outside but it is very cold at this time of year -

Please help
A very unloved Bunny Mummy

Answer
Hi Louisa,

It sounds like Arnie is just being a rabbit.  You have to accept him on his terms.  Rabbits are very territorial especially if they have not been spayed/neutered.  He feels comfortable in his hutch but when he is inside your house....the sights, sounds and environment are totally strange to him.  As a prey animal (and they do retain some of the wild traits) he is very cautious.  And they don't see things like we do...they see mostly in shadows and possibly some shades of blue and green.  So he is not comfortable in your house since he is not in there all the time.

If he hasn't been neutered, I highly suggest it for many reasons....behavior and health.  And why not move him inside period?  We have a house full of rabbits and they all enjoy our company.  But to answer your question directly, he is being a rabbit....safe in his own territory.
