Will using a Vacuum Harm Bunnys Ears?

22 9:44:58

Question
Hello Dana I haven't used a vacuum in any of the areas all of our sanctuary bunnies are because I'm so afraid it's going to give them tinnitus or make them deaf. I vacuum rooms where they aren't as I can close the door.
I've only ever swept & mopped their rooms. I'd really like to properly vacuum the floor vents etc but don't want to take a chance. Many of them are older & all haven't experienced a vacuum. I must seem crazy to you but it's a real concern for me.
Thank you.

Answer
Dear Paula,

Is there a way to remove the bunnies from one area while you vacuum, and then put them back?  You could then do a small area at a time, not getting the loud vacuum too close to any bunny.

Alternatively, you might want to invest in a quieter vacuum.  Some are much louder than others.  Shop vacs are really bad, but others not so much.

We are fortunate to have installed a central vacuum, which eliminates almost all the noise.  If you can manage that, it is ideal.  But it is quite a significant initial investment.

Hope this helps.

Dana
