Question
My daughters recently lost their 7 month old dwarf bunny. It died suddenly. The rabbit appeared to be healthy and lively and was kept in a well sanitized cage in our garage. I was wondering if you know of any common diseases which may have afflicted the rabbit since he was the first bunny we have ever owned.Any information you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
              Thank you,

Answer
Danney,

I'm sorry about your loss. Sometimes rabbits do die suddenly like that. There are diseases that can kill rabbits with little or no warning. If you noticed any diarrhea in the rabbit's cage, or on the rabbit, that would likely have had something to do with your rabbit's sudden death. Also, if you kept a car in the garage with the rabbit, and if the car was regularly driven in and out of the garage, it is possible that the rabbit was poisoned from exhaust fumes.

Other than that, I do not know of a specific disease that might have afflicted your bunny. See if you can think of anything that might have happened before the bunny died-- diarrhea, loss of appitite, a different animal in the garage that could have scared it, or some sort of accident from falling or something. Of course it could have died from a disease, and may have not showed any symptoms.

I am sorry I was not of more help, and again, I am sorry about your loss.

God Bless
