Dwarf rabbit with babies

Question
My dwarf female had 5 babies (second litter) May 24,2007.  They are fat and healthy at birth, just wondering if the doe can take care of five.  Is there any special supplement or feed I need to give her to help with milk production?  I give her fresh clover 2X a day that she loves. Otherwise I keep her plenty of pellets and water.

Answer
Dear Audrey,

A normal female rabbit will have eight nipples, so she should be able to feed all her babies, as long as her milk production is normal.  You don't need to give her any special dietary supplements, but be sure to provide *unlimited* pellets, timothy hay and fresh water while she's nursing.  She'll need a lot of energy to produce all that milk!  Fresh greens are important, too:

Be sure she is not near the male, who can impregnate her again within minutes of her giving birth with disastrous results for her babies and a huge strain on her.

I hope this helps.
