Tits

Question
I have a 2 week old kit who I tried to get to nurse.  The doe was on her back between my legs and the kit on top.  The kit went from tit to tit and made some sucking sounds but I couldn't tell if it got any milk.

1.  Should does be right side up and kits upside down during feeding?

2.  Does tits have milk all day long or just certain times of day?

3.  At 2 weeks do kits usually just sleep?

Answer
Is the mother not nursing the kit herself? Mother rabbits only feed their babies once or twice a day, so it is not uncommon to not see them nursing. If the kit made it to 2 weeks of age, she had to have been feeding it regularly.

The safest way is to keep the doe right side up, as if she is upside down, she can kick, and if she hits the kit, it can cause serious damage.

Baby rabbits sleep a lot until they start coming out of the nestbox (usually at 2 1/2 weeks to 3 weeks).
