New Mini-Lop Adopted

Question
Hi-

We adopted a Mini-Lop Wednesday (Feb 16th).  She is about 7 mths old.  And has been spayed.

We have 2 kids (2 1/2 and 18 mths).  They actually are quite soft to animals.  We also have a Sheltie, and 2 cats - one of which is "Alpha" out of the 3 pets - but she's very nice though.

Anyway- I was wondering how long I should expect to see the "true" personality of our new friend/bun?  She's very jumpy about everything!  If I hold her- and at one point she decides something is scary (even if there is nothing I see or hear) - she flips her legs around in a panic.  I talk to her nicely while she's scratching me.

She is hard to catch.  She's so flighty and unsure about everything.  Nobody has attacked her though.

Should I be concerned?  I know buns aren't all cuddly etc.  But, I would like to hold her on occassion- or sit next to me --- as my kids would also I'm sure.

Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi
You will start to see the true personality of your new bunny when she is about 1 years old. When they are babys it takes a while for them to get use to everything. But once they are 1 years old, then you will see alot more from your bunny.

I have he same problem with one of my rabbits. He has very hard to catch. If you do have trouble catching your rabbit, then try letting her run into a cage. You like a cat carrier or something. Something you can put on the floor and let her go into herself. Once she is in, close the door and take her inside the house. Then let her out again. That way you can have her on your kneee and everything. Once you do have her in the house, play wth her and give her lots of love. If you does get scared then keep talking to her. Rabbits will scatch alot, my rabbit does this for no reason. But just tell her of when she does it.

Try and spend time with her for as long as you can, try and make it fun for her when she comes into the house. Like put her on the floor and let her have a run around the house. With you watching her of course. Rabbits do enjoy doing this kind of thing. If you do this as long as you can, you will find your rabbit will enjoy comning into the house.

So remeber if you cant catch your rabbit or anything, try gettting a little cage that she can walk into herself and then carry her in the cage into the house and let ger out again. But when you go to put her back in her hutch. You pick her up and caryy her out yourself. So then she gets use to being handled as well.

I really do hope i have been able to help.

Dood luck
