HELP MY RABBITS FUR IS FALLING OUT AND HIS SKIN HAS GONE GREEN

22 10:47:11

Question
I have a daft flop eared bunny.
his fur has started to fall out and his skin has gone a green/gray colour.
we have foxes in our garden, is it mange?
I've bathed him in this stuff that gets rid of mite, lice etc. I know that mange is caused by mites.
HELP.

Answer
Dear Emma Louise,

Without seeing the bunny in person, it's hard for me to know for sure what's going on.  But you can see pictures of mange here:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/furloss.html

along with instructions for safe treatment.

When a bunny has a bald patch, the new fur growing in underneath will often make the skin look grey or dark.  But I've not ever heard of skin being truly *green*.  This makes me very worried that he has a serious infection and that the bald areas you see are actually necrotic (dead tissue).

If this is the case, you must waste no time in getting him to a good rabbit vet, whom you can find here:

www.rabbit.org/vets

(There is a link for finding vets in the U.K., if that is where you are.)

I hope you can get your bunny to a good vet soon for treatment, especially if you suspect an infection.  Green ski is NOT normal.

I hope this helps.
