Questionhi just wondering if you could give me some advice.
i have a six month old Holland lop rabbit she is constantly scratching her ears and by doing this she keeps getting small cuts.i cant see any signs of fleas on her and we've trimmed her claws. I've heard about ear mites.are these easily treated and would we be able to see them in her ear or could it be something else
any tips or advice would be great
thanks
AnswerDear Hayley,
Lops are very prone to ear infections and mites, and it would be wise to have her checked by an experienced rabbit vet, whom you can find here:
www.rabbit.org/vets
Mites are easily and safely treated with Revolution (selamectin), and you can read more about that here:
www.bio.miami.edu/hare/furloss.html
The mites are pretty much microscopic, and very difficult to see with the naked eye. If the vet suspects mites, it's safe to treat with Revolution as a precaution. We've never had any problem with it. It will also work against fleas.
I hope that helps!
