new rabbit that I am taking care of

Question
I was in a pet store today that has rabbits- the manager told me that they had a real mean one that attacked him yesterday.  I asked to look at it- I held it- it is pregnant but it also has a small lump on it's back and one with what looks to be a scab on her side.  I clipped the hair away from the one on her side which she let me do with no problem, but some antibiotic cream on it but it has me concerned.  Could the lumps be from a previous injury and they will go away?  The rabbit is only about 4 -41/2 months.  The store just got the rabbit in 2 weeks ago.  Is there anything else I should be doing for her lumps in the meantime.  I have everything for the pregnancy and delivery as I have a couple of rabbits that are my babies so they get alot of love and proper care but I am concerned for this one.  Please advise.  Thanks

Answer
Hi Elaine,

yup, whenever you get a new rabbit, take it to the vet for a checkup and to confirm the sex of the rabbit and if it's intact or not.  Have them do a wellness exam and ask about any known issues.  She will probably need antibiotics to deal with the wounds she has.  Make sure they do a good check on ears and teeth, including the molars.

The cream you have is not hurting but if it is OTC it probably will not take care of the infections as it will not be strong enough.  This is why a vet visit is needed.  Go to a good rabbit vet, not just any old vet.
