QuestionMy Pet rabbit of two years seems to be having some breathing issues. He has been to the vet three times and is on a cours of 2 antibiotics. Today we noticed when he sometimes breath after activity he seem to be gasping through his mouth. What could be his issue? Thank you
AnswerDesiree,
Your rabbit may have pneumonia, and needs nebulization as well as the appropriate antibiotics. Please find a good rabbit vet here:
www.rabbit.org/vets
to find a vet who can do chest radiographs and other diagnostics, and possibly prescribe a nebulizer and protocol for you to use. This can be life-threatening, so please don't delay.
Another possibility is a thymoma (enlarged thymus gland) impinging on his airways, and a chest radiograph should reveal that, also.
Hope this helps.
