Question
hi,

my rabbit lives in doors, but our flat becomes quite cold during the winter months when we're not home. i want to know what i can do to make her more comfortable and warm when we're not home and the heater is not on. i do put newspaper and hay down in the bottom of her hutch, but she feels very cold when we get home. what can i do?

thanx

Answer
Hi,

you should at least have the heat at 60 degrees.  Rabbits can handle 60 degrees indoors with no wind just fine if they are otherwise healthy and in good shape.

I would make sure she has good, soft bedding like a synthetic sheepskin (that way it will be machine washable).  Another good thing to have is a "diggy pile" of cut up, clean towels and t-shirts that she can both play in and relax in to snuggle in and stay warmer.

Make sure to cut up the old (clean) cotton tshirts necks and arms completely so that there is no chance of her getting stuck in them and strangling herself or otherwise hurting herself by getting caught in them.
