new bunnies

Question
I picked up two new bunnies (littermates) last night, 7 week old mini-lops. They were somewhat skittish, but I figured that most all bunnies were, so I took them anyway. Since bringing them home, they have not moved at all, eaten, or drank anything. As far as I can tell, they they haven'y pooped or peed, either. They shoved themselves into the farthest corner of their cage and stayed there. My biggest concern is that they will get very sick or die. I am also concerned they are more timid than I had thought and therefore will never be very friendly... (I passed up a 9 week old mini-lop that was confident, mellow, and friendly). Should I return them to their mother?....I am pretty sure the lady that I bought them from would be ok with that considering the circumstances.

Answer
hello becky

it sounds to me that they are much younger than 7 weeks and have left there mummy early as they may still need to be fed milk, however if this is the case then you can give then extra milk by hand, phone your vet and ask them what the best milk would be to give your bunnies.

However, they may be at the right age and will not need milk as the not eating and drink could may be a sign of them missing there mummy, they are in a new environment and may feel very scared, it may take them a while to get used to their new home. Dont feed them no grass or veg until they are at least 5-6 months. instead give plenty of hay and of course pellet food.

give them some tasty treats to get them eating.if they are still not eating or drinking by tomorrow then you will have to feed them water through a syringe and hope that they will soon eat something.

good luck and hope this helps
