Question
I have a 4 yr. old rabbit named Fuzzy. Every once in a while, maybe every few months he has these weird spasms. He rolls over onto his side and tenses up and goes crazy trying to clean himself. He makes weird noises and it almost looks like he's ready to die. He runs under the bed, and than out again and he is still twitching and rolling over. It definitely nothing to do with being happy, because he honestly looks like he is about to die, the way he tenses up and closes his eyes and spasms. It lasts about a minute or two and then he is fine, and goes on to laying down, eating etc. What is his problem? I'm worried about him.

Answer
As to what is exactly wrong with him, I don't know.
There are a some possibilities for this behavior and it may take some detective work on your part an a vet to get this figured out.

First, is there any kind of behavior of activity that he always does just before this occurs?
For instance, chewing or eating something in particular, doing some intense grooming.

There must be some trigger for this event.  It might be a a toxin on something that he chews on, or it could be a parasite of some kind.

My guess is that it isn't a seizure or something more serious like an infection in the inner ear or e.cuniculi.  If your rabbit had a more serious problem like this, I would think you would see the health of your rabbit deteriorate.

I would try to be very observant to what he does and hopefully, you can see what he had been doing just before this occurs.  However, this may be tough since it's not a frequent occurrence.

Also, a trip to a good rabbit vet could also be helpful.  It might be possible that your rabbit has a parasite that the vet can detect and treat.
