Nesting?

Question
QUESTION: I hink my doe is going to have babies, however she has already built her nest and it's only been 14 days since she was with the buck. Is that normal? I've tried to palpate to see if I could feel developing kits, but I'm to nervous about pressing too hard so I don't ever feel anything. If she is nesting this soon could it be she's having a false pregency instead? Or maybe since it would be her first litter, she's just doing things early?

thanks for you help.
ANSWER: Jill, unfortunately it can be either.  Some does make nests very very early and then just guard them until they are due, and then again it might be a false pregnancy and will end on day 17.  Some breeders try rebreeding at day 17 to test if a doe is pregnant.  Supposedly if she is PG she will not receive the buck.  I have a doe who will receive the buck any time any where any how - she is shameless.  The danger of this is if the doe is PG in one uterine horn and then at 17 days receives the buck again she can become PG in the other horn - this can cause great problems and is not recommended.  I suggest that you wait it out for 34 days and if nothing happens rebreed.  If she is PG and has not had kits by day 34 the stimulus of breeding will provoke kindleing and if she is not PG she hopefully will be after the mating.  Isn't rabbit breeding fun !!

QUESTION: Thakns for your help, and I have one last question. today I noticed she covered the whole of the nest box, so I can't look in and she'd have to move stuff out of the way to get in. Is that a normal thing? I know wild rabbits will do that to protect their nests, but I thought that was only after they've had their babies.
ANSWER: Completely normal Jill.  Are you SURE she was not bred before the time you bred her ??????  Might be a good idea to distract her with a goodie and put your fresh washed hand in the nest to just check...............

QUESTION: I'm sure, I even marked my calender on the day. She had a FP before and this time I made sure to keep track of every litle thing I could. One more thing, I know I said that before... anyways, her hutch happenns to be close to one of my bucks. They cages aren't right next to eachother, mre like 3 feet apart. She's suddendly started growling at him, even though he doesn't pay any attention to her.  I know it's probably hormonal, but could it be stressing her out? Should I make sure her cage is all by it's lonesome until she has had the babies?

Answer
No Jill, rabbits do better when they can at least see others of their own kind.  Boy, she must be full of hormones !  Be careful when you mate her - she is the type of doe that can nuter your buck in a blink of an eye.  It is so funny how sometimes they can mirror human attitudes.  LOL !
