onion smell

Question
I am fostering a female rabbit who is about 4 years old.  She recently had an issue around her "female" region which the vet prescribed baytril.  The area was red, raw and very tender to touch.  Now that it has cleared up, I have noticed that the rabbit has a cooked onion odour emitting from her vagina.  There is a bit of white residue, not much but enough that it can make the surrounding hair stick together and gets flaky.

I have had no luck searching on the internet to what this issue might be!  Could it be bladder sludge? A yeast infection?

I have no clue!

Answer
Dear Shannon,

Yes, you could be on the right track with thinking this could be sludge, a yeast infection, or even a bacterial infection.  The funny smell suggests yeast...but the only way to really know for sure would be with a culture and sensitivity test on a clean urine sample:

I hope the vet you saw is a rabbit-savvy vet, but if you're not sure, you can use the list linked here to find one in your area:

Hope that helps.
