Bald eye & spaying

Question
Hi Emily, I have couple of questions if that's ok.

We have a couple of female dwarves they are approx 19 weeks old, they have a cage inside and out and stay outside when the weather is fine, if not they are free to bounce around inside when being supervised (they always stay in at night). I have noticed one has become more dominant and tries to "hump" the other, they are definitely both female, is this normal and is this an indication they are ready to be spayed? I have read so many different things about the correct age for spaying.

The other thing I have noticed is that the more dominant bunny has lost some fur around one of her eyes, it doesn't look sore or weepy but I often see the other bunny licking and nibbling (grooming?) her around the eyes, again is this normal or is there likely to be an infection or something? Our local vet is very expensive so I thought I would try asking on here first, hope you don't mind!

Thank you for reading, Lindsey

Answer
Hey Lindsey.

Yes, female rabbits mounting each other is completely natural. The correct age to get females spayed is around 4 months.

Rabbits mount each other to show dominance or some rabbits just get the urge in hot weather.

Yes, there could be an infection, check if there is anything around the eye, if so vets is the safest option.

It could just be that your rabbit has flees or mites and is getting frustrated and keeps scratching, if your rabbit has flees check her fur if there is flees then you can buy some flee spray from many pet shops. If mites then the vets is necessary.

It also could be a bite from the non-dominant female. To check try and see if they fight with each other, if so go to the vets and get the scratch stitched up.

I can't be too sure about what the eye problem is because i can't see it for myself but i know that the vets is very expensive but sometimes that it is just the right thing to do.

Thank You for asking

I hoped this helps.
