Question
I have a male rabbit and he is 1 year old, since Jan 19. As a baby he use to roll a water bottle and play and sleep with it. Now as an adult i notice him mating with the bottle and it is getting worst. I just want to know if i should go and buy him a female rabbit? He is neutered and i wasn't planning to get him a sprayed female. Or should I? And I believe i spoiled him because when i take the bottle away from him, he get upset and wont come to me anymore. What should I do,because i dont want him to be unhapppy.

Answer
Hi Karen. My, do you have a bit of a problem. I would not suggest that you buy a female to go with your male. This will not solve your males problem. The first thing I would suggest is that you have your bunny examined by a vet to see if there is a reason that he would be so sexually active since he has been neutered. Maybe some thing did not get done properly??? If your bunny checks out OK, then I would suggest that you take his play toy away. I know he will be unhappy for a while but he needs to get away from his present behavior. You might try substituting his bottle with something smaller that he can not ride on. I have a bunny that has a teaspoon in her pen. She loves it and pushes and tosses it much of the time. I think she likes the noise it makes. You may have to try several items before you find one that your bunny will play with. I know you don't want him to be upset, but once the bottle has been removed and replaced with something else he will adjust with time. Yes he may pout for a time, none of us like to have our bad habits taken away. Also if you don't feed hay to your bunny now is a great time to start. The hay will help to keep him busy so he isn't concerned with the absence of the bottle. Give it a try. I am told it takes 10-11 days to break a habit. He should be done pouting and be back to his normal happy self by that time. - the bottle :o),  Pat
