Why does my rabbit keep biting at her leg?

22 9:57:59

Question
I noticed there was a cut on Daisy's leg Monday night. Its a big pink raw spot above her left hind leg, almost near her tail, that she keeps biting at. She licks, then bites, then licks then bites.. The vet gave us some oral medicine to keep it from getting infected, but I have still noticed her licking it and biting it. Every time I check on it, it has a new spot that's bleeding because she wont stop biting it. Is it because it itches under the skin for some reason..? Or did she get hurt and shes trying to heal it? I doubt its fleas because she stays in my room all the time. I'm worried and I try to keep her from messing with it, but I can't watch her 24/7.. and she just turned 8 months old so there shouldn't be any major health problems. Thank you so much for your time!

Answer
Dear Karli,

I think you need to find a vet who will take more time to properly diagnose the problem so it can be treated appropriately.  She might have fleas or mites (even if she's always indoors, these can come in on other things, or even enter through windows and doors), and this can easily be treated with Revolution (selamectin) from an experienced rabbit vet.  (DO NOT use Frontline, which is deadly to rabbits.)

You can find a good vet here:

Hope this helps.
