Question
Hia, I believe that my rabbit is pregnant and is due around today or the next few days. But i Have noticed that she is bleeding a little. does this mean she is going into labour? and is it normal for a rabbit to bleed befor she is about to give birth? I am vey worried about her and that this may not be normal and she will die. My rabbit's name is Snuffels and she is 4 years old.  She is fne in her self and is drinking and eating well. so i am a little confused about it all.
thanks for your time.

Answer
Dear Jeanette,

If your bunny is showing blood at the vulva, but has not had babies within an hour or so of the blood first showing, you need to get her to a good rabbit vet for help.  You can find one here:

www.rabbit.org/vets

A four year old rabbit is quite old to be having a first litter, as her pelvic bones will not be as flexible as those of a younger rabbit.  If the father was larger than the mother, then she is at even greater risk of a difficult delivery, and she should be in the vet's office in case an emergency C-section (and spay) are necessary.

I hope she will be fine soon.  Please write back if you have any other questions.
