Is it common for rabbits around 8 weeks to Bleed?

Question
Hi there,
I recently was given two rabbits from my partner. They are around 8 weeks, one boy and one girl. I came home tonight to find blood in its cage were it had peed. There was two small patches. It was obvious the blood was in the rabbits urine. I then found another patch just recently and am very worried. Is it common for them to bleed? What could have caused this? Also, around how much would it cost to go to a vet to get them checked out? Thank you so much
Brooke.

Answer
Dear Brooke,

Bleeding is never normal for rabbits, but be sure it's blood.  Sometimes pigments in the urine can make it turn very dark orange or even red.  Please see:

It would be highly unusual for a baby this young to have uterine cancer, but I would strongly recommend you have both bunnies checked by a rabbit-savvy veterinarian as soon as possible.  I hope you can find one via the international listings here:

I can't tell you how much it would cost, as this varies tremendously from area to area.  But if you are going to have bunnies, you need to be ready to provide them with veterinary care when necessary.

I hope all goes well.
