Question
What is the name of the author and book you recommended in some of the previous answers.

Answer
Good books on pot-bellied pigs are few and far between. These are my recommendations. I believe they are all available from Amazon. Or ask for them at your local library.

Pot-bellied Pig Behavior and Training by Priscilla Valentine. Pris is a professional animal trainer, her pig Nellie is a TV star. Pris really understands how pigs think and has run into every possible problem with pet pigs. Her book is available from Amazon.com or her website valentinesperformingpigs.com

Veterinary Care of Pot-Bellied Pet Pigs by Lorrie Boldrick (Blackburn) DVM. This is a small but comprehensive book. The medical terminology might be a little confusing for people unfamiliar with the terms, but aside from that this book is clear and comparatively easy to read.

Pot-bellied Pet Pigs: Mini Pig Care and Training by Lorrie Boldrick (Blackburn) DVM. Nicknamed "The Pink Book", this is one of the first books written about keeping pot-bellied pigs as pets. It's also still one of the best, because the author is a veterinarian and a pot-bellied pig owner herself.

The Complete Guide for the Care and Training of Pet Potbellied Pigs by Kathleen Myers. I have not read this one yet myself, but I have talked with Kathleen, she does understand pigs.

Most other pot-bellied pig books are extremely generic and offer little solid, useful advice. The books from the major pet book publishers seem to be the worst. Perhaps they simply handed an assignment to a staff writer, or perhaps comprehensive rough drafts were victims of publishers guidelines and heavy handed editing, cutting out important points. The old saying goes "You can't judge a book by it's cover" but when it comes to books on pot-bellied pigs, the books from independent publishers with less than glamorous covers have better information inside.
