QuestionMy pig has an itchy rash on her chest and then small hive like bumps in between her legs.
The rash on her chest has a weird stink to it.
Do you have any idea what this could be? Is it something serious?
Also, if you have a means of receiving pictures maybe I can send one to you later. Thanks, she is a pet and I don't want her to be itchy like this :)
(and she sleeps with me so its a little gross, gave her a medicated bath last night that may or may not have helped)
AnswerPig skin is very much like people skin, and the things that affect people skin can affect pig skin. I am not a veterinarian and can not make a medical diagnosis over the internet.
Some things that can cause a rash are mites, ant or spider bites, scented laundry products, scented rug cleaning products, and lawn chemicals. A rash can also be a sign of an illness like erysipelas.
You can use any skin product made for people on pigs. If a medicated lotion or soothing ointment doesn't fix the problem in a couple of days, or if other symptoms develop, she'll need to see a veterinarian for a skin scraping and test, and maybe two doses of mange medicine.
