Pet rat is sick..??:(

My per rat is about 2 and a half years old...i think he broke one of his toes a while ago, but it seemed to get better. However recently his leg has become very swollen and he can't put his weight on it...he's lost a lot of weight and is quite docile, i think he is coughing up blood aswell...I'm awaiting an appointment at the PDSA hospital..do you have any ideas, and anything i can do to make him more comfortable..i'm worried :(

there's really not much you can do. you made an appt. for the vet. I would try to give him some pedialyte mixed in with his water. like half pedialyte and half water or if you have any vitamin drops double the dose of small animal vitamin drops in his water to help try and add some extra vitamins. This is all I can really think of, if you have rat blocks and you are able to mash them up and feed them to him through a syringe or if he is able to eat you can mix it with warm milk and give it to him in a spoon or feeding syringe.
