Question
I have quiet old male rat that  had a major energy loss he seems to be very still and wont move anywhere, also he wont open his eyes (at least barely ). I don't see him eat or drink a lot and that is a major concern I'm scared he will pass away.He is very unbalanced and bites everything near his head and stays in the same position. He has a brother that has a lung problem but it's very common in rats and he has a lot more energy than him please help me i am very worried respond as soon as you can thank you so much.

Answer
I'm afraid it doesn't sound too good for your boy.  It sounds like he is becoming senile and demented with old age and isn't acting like himself at all.  I would recommend you take him to the vet just in case there is something you can do but I have seen this behaviour a lot in rats who are very close to the end of their lives so I would advise you to prepare for the worst.  I would also recommend you take the brother to the vet for some antibiotics; though respiratory problems are common in rats they can also be easily treated if he is still in relatively good health.  The longer he goes without treatment the harder it will be to get him healthy again and the shorter his life will be.  I'm very sorry to hear about your rat, I do hope that he gets better!  Good luck!
