Question
Hi Sandra
Thanks for your response. I put a follow up answer on but it never appears. Sorry if im cross-posting!!
The vet was ok. I was expecting him to at least do a skin scraping but he didnt. I went in and said do you think it could be mites and he said maybe, ill give them this injection!!
Its now a week and they still seem to be scratching. He said wait 2 weeks before i go back for the second jab.
Im thinking of cutting the chicken and all protein out for a week to see if that helps. They dont get losts/too much but sometimes when you see those sweet eyes looking at you i cant resist

Thanks

V

Answer
Hi Vicky

Seems that you are allowed so many follow ups on here and it cuts you off so you need to start a new question, which is fine. I like to hear how things turned out.

As for the mites...if it is mites, they still may make the rats itch for a few weeks yet, unfortunately, because eggs are all about the cage etc...they hatch, new mites come and bite the rats and so on and so on...so it takes a bit of time to break the cycle. I kind of wish the vet did a skin scrape though just to see where things stood so you didnt have to worry and now your about to wipe all all protein to see if that helps (I would do the same thing so dont feel bad!)
I myself prefer revolution put between the shoulder blades. I have had alot of luck with both ivermec injections and revolution applied topically so I guess either-or will do, IF its parasites at all. I guess time will tell.

Oh and I know so well about "those eyes"!  Worse yet, those little front paws, wrapped around the bars, those big ears propped on top of their head, the bruxing they make when they see you coming.....ARGH!  They just have it down pat how to seduce us to get what they want, dont they? To think people fear these critters and we melt like butter around them......darn VERMIN!  ;-)
