Question
My boyfriend and I bought 2 female rats about 2 weeks ago. They never tried biting us and behaved very well in their cage until we fed them fresh berries and veggies through there cage. Ever since then, they bite us (VERY HARD, i bled this morning) when we come to the cage to even get them out. They stick there arms out the cage and act like wild hethans! I know they think we are food and treats, but how should we show them thats a no no?

Answer
Stop giving them treats through the bars AT ALL.

Its hard to break them of this habit once they start. You have some options, though. I find that if I spray my fingers with something strong and distasteful smelling (vinegar works!) and then reach for the door, its apt to make them stop and think before trying to bite at me -- they realize pretty quickly it isn't food. Then continue about your usual routine. NEVER give them treats through the bars, though. Obviously they were a bit too excited by that!
