Wires, wires everywhere! And not a one to spare!!

Question
Little Demitrius is doing well. I've found a place to put him when he's out. My computer desk is almost like a cubicle so it allows him to explore without going too far out of mommy's vision. It's the only place I can give him any freedom.
The only problem is, he's discovered the wires!!!! With one little nip he bit straight through an electronic cord that will cost me 25 dollars to replace because it's so expensive to buy seperately, I might as well buy a whole new electronic!!
Can I keep him from biting the cords?! Are there any tricks of the trade?? I used anti-nail-bite on a mousepad he was getting too fond of, and it worked like a charm, but It would be too tedious to do all the wires, and probably not good for him or effective. What should I do???

Answer
Hi Gina

Studies show that rats are very attracted to the electric current in electric cords and this can be a real fatal attraction.

Here is what to do:
Dont let him free range all around because nothing is going to stop him.
You can buy a wire playpen for small animals and yes he can climb it so what you also can do is get cardboard and attach each piece to the wire playpen and make it high enough that he cant try to jump it and pull himself over. You can also buy plastic  tubing that encases the power cords but this is costly.
Another idea is to run the cardboard  along the walls IN FRONT of the cords and outlets, but it is so much easier to simply give him a selected play area filled with climbing boxes and balls and paper bags to climb in and a box that is filled with old rags to bury himself in...lots of ideas, but forget about teaching him about the wires. If he doesn't listen the outcome is deadly.
