Rat Facial Swelling

We have a pair of two year-old female rats.  Yesterday, my daughter found one of them with some dried blood around her left eye, and that side of her face appears swollen.  At first we thought that the other rat had injured her (this has never happened before), but we're also concerned about a tumor.  Thanks for your advice.

Sounds like she has some porphyrin discharge around her eye. The swelling could be from an abscess if it came up that fast.

Try to hold a warm compress on the swelling, see if that helps it go down or drain.

Let me know.  Is there a scab on the area where there is swelling?
