Eyes

Question
My rat "Charlie" is a male rat and He's has scratch marks around both of his eyes and I'm a lil worried cause he won't stop scratching his eyes, we tried pet eye ointiment for rats and it seems like its not working, he just keeps scratching his eyes, I change his cage 2 times a week but that doesn't seem to the problem. I don't know why he keeps scratching his eyes till they bleed!! (around the eyes I mean) Help!

When you wipe the red crust away, what does it look like? Are there sores?

It may be porphyrin instead. Does he wake up with more red around his eyes?
