Question
QUESTION: I just got up to check on Blondie and I realized she is so bloated it is not right! I gave her an enima thinking it mak be megacolon but that did nothing. She is doing bad and I have done EVERYTHING I can possibly think of for her. She still eats though. What should I do before she bursts!! Her tummy is huge!!! Please help!!!

ANSWER:
How old is she?  Why would you assume it was megacolon? THere are many other signs of megacolon than bloating, such as foul smelling diarrhea (no sure if it ever should smell like roses however;)intermitten with constipation, impacted with stool to the point you can see it protruding from the opening of their anal area, bloating or distended abdomen from colon being distended, lethargy and in young pups, failure to thrive.

WHen you gave her an enema, did she go at all? You need to push fluids now because an enema could because dehydration real fast.

Do you have a vet?  Bloating can be from so many things, from heart problems and kidney and liver dysfunction to colorectal polyps to uterine problems.

Again, how old is she and has she been spayed?

Do you have a good exotic vet, and I dont mean a general vet that dabbles in seeing exotic animals on the side.

hang in there, we will try to fix the little lady.

QUESTION: No...she is 2 years and 8 months...don't you remember us talking about her all yesterday morning and the night before? She DOES have CHF and I was the one with the oxygen tank remember. I just couldn't talk to you further without asking a NEW question because this site would not allow it.

Answer
I am sorry, but yes now I remember you. Because you did not remind me you were the same one with the rat with CHF etc....  this can be confusing because I do not get the email addresses or names of people and when I get 30 to 35 questions a day it can be hard to remember who is who.

Now it makes sense....her heart is really having a hard time working. Do you still have lasix there to use? As you may know, with CHF, this is common for the abdomen to retain fluids. You should start her on the lasix, or increase it if she is still on it. Also, is she on a low sodium diet?
