tumor on a rat

Question
we have a pet rat that we got as a gift. I believe it is around 2 years old. We have notice to me looks like a tumor. It is between its 2 back legs and seems to be getting bigger. as far as i know the rat is eating and drinking. I wander if it is something that i can take to the vet to have it removed or should I have it put to sleep. Its a very nice rat and I want the best for it. I believe its a tumor because it looks the same as when we had our hamsters who died from the tumor. please let me know what to do.

Answer
That is entirely your decision. Tumors can and are successfully removed from rats that age and if you have the money and the want, it's always a viable option.. however I can't make that decision for you. Perhaps you should discuss it with a vet? They would be able to tell you your rat's over all health and their odds for recovering from a surgery such as that.
