New Mommy Rat that bites

Hi Emily,

I rescued a male and female rat and unknown to me the female already was pregnant.  I was working on taming them and neither bit at all but were a bit skittish.  Now since the babies were born the Mom trys to bite constantly.  I don't know what to do, can you help me?  I want to start holding the babies but are unable to get close.  She even reaches through the cage to grab at anything that gets close.  Thank-you!  Delsie

You may have to just wait until she is comfortable with you. Offer her treats and such when ever you put your hand in the cage, just dont touch the babies until you know sh accepts you. Also be sure the male is out of the cage, he can hurt the babies and even the mother
