Dying rat?

Question
My rat Bella is about 3 to 3 and a half years old (she was full grown when I got her in December, so not exactly sure).  On Friday she started wheezing, we couldn't get her in to the vet on Saturday.. on Sunday she began to worsen.  The porphryin (sp?) is only leaking out of her left ear and eye.  Nothing out of her nose or mouth.  The left eye is basically dead - almost popped out, not moving and completely dry.  Her breathing is now grating and she's trying to breathe with her mouth open... she has a vet appointment today, but I'm not sure how to make her comfortable till then.  I'm not even sure if she'll make it till then!  She's a tubby rat - almost overweight - but she's generally very active, even when she's been sick.  Right now, she won't even move, even when I pick her up or nudge her a little bit.  I have her sitting on my lap in a towel to warm her up... she seems to like it, and is giving me kisses.  I was wondering if this was a classic respiratory infection, or if it could be something else.  I've had rats with respiratory infections who've passed away even with medication (they get sick at the most inopportune times, during blizzards and weekends), but I've never seen one like this, especially with the eye bulging out and dead.

Answer
Sounds like a tumor behind her eye for starters. What did the Vet say? I wish I would have had this sooner.  Unfortunately, I have 3 days to respond to these questions and if they dont say EMERGENCY on it, they tend to be in the pile behind the others.  The wheezing etc...is probably due to pneumonia but I think her eye is unrelated.   I am hoping the Vet is qualified to treat rats.  So many claim to be but are absolutely clueless and make matters worse by not treating them properly.   Let me know how things are going.
