something wrong with my rat Lola

Question
QUESTION: My pet rat Lola has not been acting like herself lately.  She is listless but still eating/drinking and comes over for treats.  I picked her up to examine up and noticed that her back legs/lower body is shaking.  She was just at the vets recently and had a few tumors removed.  They did not see any sign of cancer and the incision site healed up nicely.  Do you know what could be wrong with her?  Thank you.

ANSWER: Hi Michelle

How old is Lola?   Where were the tumors located?
Sometimes the weight of the tumors can cause damage to the nerves and muscles, especially in the hind legs and this can decrease mobility and also cause some discomfort. Shaking is a sign of pain and discomfort in some cases.

Anyhow, I will be able to know a bit more once I know where the location was for the tumors and how large were they as compared to say, a lemon or a plum or grape etc...

Thanks

Sandra

QUESTION: The larger tumor (a little bigger than a grape) was on her chest by the armpit area and the other one which was a little smaller than a grape was down on her abdomen by the genital area.  Lola is a bout a year and a half.  Thank you for your response.

Answer
Thanks for clarifying that for me.

Sounds like Lola had some benign mammary tumors removed and I had a feeling one of them was down by her lower extremities.
Sometimes after surgery, even a week or more, the rat can still have some tenderness and pain and this can make them shake a bit. Also, there could be some nerves pinched from the stitches. This is temporary though, but if it should get worse or continue for a long period of time I would call the vet for his or her opinion.
