Rat Hernia!

Question
Hi,
I have a rat named Jasper. A few months ago he developed a hernia on his right leg. I took him to my vet and he said that Jasper did in fact have a hernia and that as long as the hernia didn't get any bigger or affect my rat that there would be no need for surgery. Well a few weeks after my vet told me this the hernia had gotten a little bit bigger. I had also noticed that when my rat would try to itch himself it would give him trouble. So a few hours ago I called my vet to set up and appointment and while i was on the phone with him I decided to tell him about it getting a little bigger and the option of surgery. He told me that I should bring my rat in and that if my rat were to get the surgery he had an 80% chance of dying during the surgery and only a 20% chance of surviving. HELP ME!

Answer
The answer is pretty  simple:  You need a new vet fast.

Go private and please let me know the name of the vet your seeing and I will also give you names of vets that are exotic certified that wont give you those disaterous odds.  Its obvious that if this vet is the one to operate the odds are against your rat. I wouldnt let him touch my rat with a ten foot pole.

There are more vets that see rats that are Unqualified than there are qualified, and I will help you find the ones that are qualified.
