Question
hi there sorry the post was so short I was abit frantic and trying to get the problem on as many sites as i could. she has an healthy appetite looks well no change in mood i can just hear a faint gargling noise not all the time morning seem to be worse and then by midmorning i cant here a thing, the puffiness its like stroking an inflated ballon under her beak and to the side of her neck but that also goes aswell I guess that why the vet couldnt find anything.I know birds can look well when they are not im quite worried, the vet was recommeded to me by a friend who has a macaw. He seems very knowledgeable but I havn't asked if he is an avian vet to be honest. There are three vets at the practice and he is the only one who treats birds i just assumed he was

Hi, Nichola.  Thanks for posting!

I'd need to have more details from you about what is going on in this situation in order to try and help you with this.  Are you taking your B&G to an avian veterinarian?  A regular cat/dog vet doesn't know anything about parrots.

If the bird vet can't find anything wrong medically with your parrot, then this behavior could be a reaction to something going on in her environment or she could be mimicking something, etc., etc.

Let me know what the bird vet says when you take her back tomorrow.  If not a medical problem, provide more information about the situation, and I'll see if I can help you more.

Answer
Hi again, Nichola.

What I suggest is that you find an avian veterinarian.  Call and ask if the vet is a certified avian vet, don't assume.  If not, find someone else.  Some vets have some knowledge of parrots, but you want a vet who was trained in school for years specifically on birds.

The gurgling sound could just be a sound your bird has learned from someone/something or could be an illness.  I would suggest once you find an avian vet, take your bird in first thing in the morning when the vet might be able to see the neck.  OR take photos so you can show the vet.  See if you can tape record the sound you hear.

I'm not an avian vet and in the 18 years I've been around parrots, I've never seen/heard anything like you describe.
