Sudden death of my budgie

21 16:18:51

Question
I wanted to take my budgie to have its beak trimmed today, and I took it out of its cage (as I have done countless times before) and when I put it into the travel cage, it just fell over dead. It was going on 4 years in age and has been healthy. It was a total shock and I am completely dumbfounded as to why that would happen or what would have caused it to just die like that. Have you ever heard of anything happening like this before?

Answer
Hello Jem and thank you for your post.
I am so sorry for your loss.  I know how heartbreaking it is for you.
There are many things that can cause what seems to be a sudden death, but without a necropsy, it's impossible to tell what the death was caused from.
If you've recently cleaned your carpets or furniture, or used any kind of chemicals around your Budgie, that could've been the cause.  Also if the bird had eaten anything that would be toxic, this would be the end result.  Has anybody in your house given the bird salted pretzels, chips, crackers, avocado, chocolate, anything high in sugar, or anything else that would be toxic to it?
What ever was the cause probably happened within the past couple of days or so.
I wish that I could give you a definite answer as to the cause of your Budgie's death, but again, only a necropsy can give a definite answer.

Good luck and God Bless.
Dianna
