New baby princess parrot

Question
Hi Carol
I just bought two baby princess parrots today.  I actually rushed in a bit without doing any background reserach, which is actually not usually liek me.  The problem is, now, 4 hours after the purchase, one of the baby's is continually squaking, almost like it is distressed.  It is only happening when we go near it and trying to gently handle it, but then the bird doesnt run away from us, it kind of just looks at me like it is wanting something from me, maybe some hand feeding or something, Im not really sure.  I have no idea of the exact age, and no way of getting in contact with the seller.  The other bird is slightly larger, and the smaller (squaker) does appear to be calmed by the bigger bird.  Maybe this is in indication that the bird is actually younger?  If I do try handfeeding, what would you recommend feeding it?  I have given it apple, corn and small parrot mix seed.

Answer
First you should take them to the vet. If they're begging for food, they obviously were not properly weaned and still need hand-feeding which YOU CAN NOT DO YOURSELF. It takes lots of experience-more than a book or person can tell you-to do it correctly and if not done correctly, you can kill the bird easily. Your vet will know if they need to be hand-fed and will show you the proper way to do it. Also, these birds could have a deadly disease without you even knowing it.
Make sure not to feed them apple seeds as they are poisonous. Also, seed causes fatty liver disease, so feed them a good pellet diet like Roudybush, Harrison's, or natural Zupreem.
