sick bird?

Question
I have a 2 1/2 year old sun conure and this past week I've been under the impression that she is sick. I brought her to my boyfriends aunts house because Ive been staying up here with him. since she's been here she's been pooping an awful lot, wayyyy more than usual. when she was at my place she might poop on you once during the time that you had her out of her cage. here, at his aunts, she will poop on them 4-5 times during the time that shes out. i dont get it. i hope she isnt sick. i thought maybe it was because she was unfamiliar with the house but should she really be going THAT much?? please help...

Answer
There's a phrase to keep in mind, "Light for flight".  Even the smallest droppings can improve a bird's lift time, so you might be right in thinking that stress is behind your conure's increased droppings.

However, before relaxing, are the droppings still the normal consistency and healthy?  Obviously not all of them need to be or can be expected to be (some will be firmer, others will be more watery) but overall are they ok?

Is the bird's eating normal?  Drinking ok?  In general is she acting good?

Is there any possibility of her being exposed to anything toxic?  Does anyone cook with non-stick (very, very bad stuff even when not overheated).  Nonstick items might also include toaster ovens, clothes irons, bread machines and some crock pots.  The worst things anyone can have in a home with a bird are nonstick drip pans on a stove.

How about air fresheners, plug ins, candles, you know the usual - these things could also contribute to a change in droppings since they can wreak havoc on the bird's internal systems.

Finally, double check the bird's food.  Any junk food creeping into her diet?  Is she eating healthy?

There's never anything wrong with a vet visit.  We have our girls checked twice a year no matter what just to be sure and that peace of mind is priceless!
