Conure and rope perches

Question
I adopted a nanday conure from a friend about 5 months ago. She is around 7 years old. I believe she has only ever had wood perches in her cage. A couple of days ago i bought her a rope perch. She has yet to step on it. She sometime acts like she is scared of it. How can i get her comfortable with/use the rope perch? Or should i just stick with the wood perches?

Answer
-- Probably by the time you read this she'll have been on the perch.  It's perfectly natural for a bird to be cautious about something new like that.

What I prefer to do before just putting something in the cage is to have it outside the cage, very close by, for a couple days.   Let her see you touch it every day, for instance as you change her water or feed her or just share time with her.   Don't make a big deal out of it, just pick it up, turn it around in your hand, maybe stand very close to the cage and look at it while she looks at it too.

Then it won't be such a shock when it suddenly ends up IN the cage.

I have a lot more info you might be able to use:
