Purchasing a Goffin

Question
We are in the process of waiting for our baby Goffin Cocatoo to be weaned she is 22 weeks old and the breeder just informed us that shes still wanting to be fed 2- 3 times a day and only picking at some seed. Is there something we should be concerned about or watch for when we see her? She seems healthy, but cries alot. Thank You.

Answer
Cockatoos usually want at least 1 feeding until they're a full year old! My Goffins is between 4 and 5 years old and still loves eating oatmeal at night. Make sure the breeder is weaning her on PELLETS and NOT SEEDS! Seeds give birds (especially cockatoos) fatty liver disease and messes up their hormones so they can be very moody. I recommend having the breeder wean the bird on to Roudybush pellets because they are completely natural, regulate hormones, taste good to the bird (smells good, too, but don't try them. You'll be disappointed LOL) and with these pellets, you do not need ANY vitamin or mineral supplement.
'Toos really do cry a lot when they're babies because they are so difficult to wean. They're like the teenager that never moves out. I recommend joining the yahoo group "cockatoos" because there are so many people who are going through or have gone through the new baby 'Too who wont wean and they are an endless wealth of info and they NEVER make fun of "stupid" questions (there was one recently "does your 'too smell like dust, too?") because we've ALL had those questions at one time or another.
Good luck with your new baby!
