Question
I have 2 macaws and a cockatoo...I also have pink eye which has now spread to both eyes, my Dr is not sure if it is viral or bacterial, but has prescribed antibiotic drops, my question is can my birds catch this? If so how long will it take for them to show signs and what are they?

Answer
-- Pink eye is viral, often with a bacterial component (side effect).  It's a virus exclusive to humans.  While other animals (mammals) have their own version, it does not cross species lines.  And it will certainly not cross from mammal to avian.

HOWEVER - bacteria isn't always so picky.  Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your birds
