Question
A macaw was given to us because she was not getting the attention she was use to. She seems happy in her new home and has bonded with my son. Is there a supplement to help. She has lots of toys and all kinds of food.I sure hope you can help. Lisa

Answer
Hello Lisa and thank you for your post.
There is no supplement that you can give to your new friend, however, you can spray him/her lightly with a mist of water.  This will help to sooth his/her skin.
The biggest 2 reasons for birds mutilating themslf is boredom (not enough attention/stimulation), and mites or other skin irritations, such as perfumes in the air, candles, cleaning solutions, and so on.
It sounds to me like your new friend will be fine, and with the attention that it is getting in it's new home will stop the self mutilation.

Good luck and God Bless.
