Mice sick?

Question
I have 2 pet mice in the same cage. I've been noticing some yellow sticky stuff on the top shelf i have in the cage and a little on the cage bars itself. I saw today that one of the mice will go to the top shelf for a minute and then get off (leaving some sort of liquid behind). She did this a number of times as well. I looked closer and she is dripping this stuff from her genital region. She has also become a little bit more moody. Anything I can do to help her get better?

Answer
If it is noticeably not urine, then the other option to look into would be either yellow diarrhea or it could be a vaginal discharged.

If it is coming from the anal area then it could be an infection that needs anitbotics. It will appear to be a yellow diarrhea that is sometimes sticky and smells (worse then normal). A vet will have to see your mouse for this issue.

Vaginal discharge can be a sign of two things. One being in heat and the other being pregnant. If she is in heat then she is doing a scenting type ritual. If she is pregnant then she is getting ready for birth. You will know if she is pregnant because of the her large stomach.

In all cases you should keep an eye out for change in eating, drinking, or active behavior. Keep her cage clean and if she continues this behavior after 5-7 days then you will need to see a vet.

Here are some websites that may further help.
