tending a wild mouse

Question
Hi. My cat brought in a mouse and left it in the living room. It was still alive so I put my cat out and put the mouse into a small box with some tissue paper, a tiny lump of cheese and a couple of little lettuce leaves. The mouse is very still though, breathing quite heavily, and I think one or more of his legs may be injured. I haven't the slightest clue how to help the little guy out so I'd like some advice. Thank you for any help you can give.

Answer
There are some things that you need to do in order to help him survive before taking it to a vet to make sure it is not critically harmed.

1)Feed them
-giving them formula is your best bet. You can use kitten formula that they sell at local pet stores or places like Walmart. You will need a dropper like for eye drops or infant Tylenol and they will need to use about 0.3 ml every 2 hrs.

2)Keep them warm
-You can do this by placing a hot pad on low under their cage floor. Make sure to wrap it in a towel . Also give them something to lay in like mouse bedding.

3)Help them go to the bathroom
- mice are like kittens and need help at first to go to the bathroom. You can use a warm cotton ball to rub their genital areas to stimulate their bladder and bowel. I would recommend doing this 20 minutes after each feed.

4)Keeping him clean
-using a cotton ball and keeping the mouse clean with basic warm water and making sure the cage is cleaned when they do use the bathroom.

If you feel that the mouse has a injured leg a vet will need to tend to that, but for now you can make him as comfortable and give him a better chance of making it by doing these steps listed above. I hope that this helps and good luck :)
