Wounded ear from scratching

Question
I have had my pet mouse for about 4 months now. One day I saw that he had a wound on his ear. That was two months ago. The wound is still there and he is still scratching on it. I got more pet mice after reading that they can get lonely and they can become obsessive scratches. After that didn't seem to help I also read that a cage with plenty of fun things for them to do can also help. I now have a three story cage with pipes and wheels. Nothing seems to be helping. She is also making a strange squeaking noise almost like a short sneeze. She tends to be a loner and the other three mice prefer to sleep in the house on the first level. Please help:(

Answer
Dear Megan,

Your little mouse needs to go to the vet. There is a reason for the scratching.  It is likely mites, but it could be something else.  The sneezing is likely a respiratory infection, and she will need antibiotics.  Find a vet who does "pocket pets" or "exotics."  If you find more than one, ask how many mice they treat per month.  Mice are not like dogs and cats, and so the vet needs to be trained and experienced. Bring all the mice with you.  They may all need to be treated either for mites or for illness or both.

The cage sounds wonderful.  Thank you for caring so much.

I wish the best for your little mouse.
