Mice nibbling my fingers

Question
I got a new mouse about 3-4 weeks ago and I all ready had two other mice. After a few days I started putting my hand in the cage so the new mouse (kiwi) would get my smell. she nibbles my fingers and sometimes it doesn't hurt and sometimes it does. now when I hold my other two mice (daisy and muffin) they nibble me. they never have but now they are. it's weird. do you know why this is happening?

Answer
Dear Zoe,

The finger nibbling is pretty much affectionate, unless it turns into a bite.  However, if you don't like it, just tap them very gently on the tops of their noses when they do it.  This doesn't hurt them, it sort of 'insults' them.  They should stop the behavior.

Because mice do imitate and learn from each other, it's not too strange that the others would start the behavior as well.

Have fun with all your mice!  It's an excellent idea to have 3 girls because then when one dies the other isn't left alone to become depressed.

squeaks n giggles,
